How to Avoid Suffocation Risks while on Holiday: Disposable Sleeping Bags and Blankets for Babies

Resorts, hotels, inns, motels and guest cottages generally don’t know what to provide to families with babies and young infants, since sheets and blankets are too large to be used in cribs. When folded, they can become cause too much warmth for the baby.

What’s more, they can pose as choking hazards to the baby in the middle of the night. Since infants have not yet developed the neck musculature of adults, in the case of near-suffocation, it’s not easy for them to adjust their sleeping position in order to be able to breathe. Improper bedding set-ups are the main contributor to why SIDS, or Sudden Infant Death Syndrome, occurs (unfortunately) relatively often in modern society.

It’s a terrifying thought, for this reason Caractere Paris has created a line of products made for the little ones, to make their stay as comfortable as possible:

Some hoteliers hope parents will have brought their own baby linens and beds from home. Others provide a minimal level of comfort with a sheet or blanket, but do not have products specially made for small children. Clever property owners and managers know from Caractère Paristhat the lack of specialty products in this domain means an ideal opportunity to out-smart the competition.

Disposable Linen offers a new product, the disposable baby-sized sleeping bag, the perfect solution for both parents and hotels. A soft layer of fabric envelopes the baby without smothering him or her, retaining the perfect amount of heat on a chilly night while remaining breathable during the summer.

The shape conforms to the baby’s body while eliminating all choking hazards: no dangerous pillows, no oversized sheets, no thick duvets. Instead, the parents will have a happy baby in one simple step, with one sole product.

They make for a lovely welcome gift that will surprise parents by the thoughtfulness behind it. Its low price makes it an affordable bonus to offer to certain families. Client testimonials praise this product for its stylish, well-planned design and quality construction. Many luxury hotels in Paris have made the sleeping bag their exclusive gifts to guests with young children, but the sleeping bags remain accessible in terms of price to every type of lodging.

Of course, if profits are the main concern, the reception can charge a small fee for distribution. Either way, parents often appreciate the sleeping sack much more than a simple, useless Teddy bear or doll.

While they aren’t intended to be washed, the nonwoven fabric will endure for several months. In fact, the child usually outgrows the sleeping bag before it deteriorates or the parents decide to throw it out. It’s a versatile product with two adjustable sizes, intended for children from a few weeks old to 18 months.

The bow ties are available in six colours, one for every parent and child’s preferences imaginable. Allergy problems are avoided because the nonwoven fabric is hypoallergenic. The individual wrapping guarantees the cleanliness of the product with every use. Special touches like this gift will help develop and retain clientele who understand you care about their well-being, in addition to booking rates.

Quality in hotel rooms

The most important things that a hotel can offer its guests are quality, comfort, security and happiness. Since this is what this is what clients are looking for when staying in the establishment, whether its for leisure or business. Any hotel technique or strategy have this as the fundamental base for the success of the hotel, maintaining its clientele and providing a high level of service, without this nobody would want to stay in the accommodation.

The hotel sector and tourism in general have developed a lot and have gained much relevance in recent years, becoming important sources of income for many countries. Forcing them to be more and more meticulous and retailers to be the best before the competition.

One of the most important points that define the quality of hotels is the following:

– The services provided – With this I mean the ‘extras’ offered by the hotel to please the client and create a pleasant atmosphere for him, among these can be found: swimming pools, spas, restaurants, good cleaning …

7373426086_8d0e8cd4a5_z (1)Within this most important thing is undoubtedly the room and the state in which the hotel presents it, since it is where the guest will spend the most time and what will mark him the most whether its positive or negative. They must be designed and furnished so that they can reflect the harmony in the facilities, they must be clean, have good lighting and use good quality products.

There are also many types of rooms, which are made to fit the different needs and circumstances of each one; single, double, business, for families with babies, etc.

As I mentioned before, the cleanliness of the hotel is essentialdue to the fact that guests come to spend a pleasant time, and should not be let down. They define their needs and suppliers work to achieve those objectives; hotels need to adapt to it and be in a constant development of services and / or products that help to improve the quality.

A great innovation in the industry is our disposable bedding that is being widely used in European countries. This bed linen ensures an ideal hygiene, that the client feels more secure since he is and will be the only one to use them and it’s less expensive since you will not have to be spending neither laundry products, the manual labor nor in the washes themselves. You can’t go wrong with them!

An essential item in every hotel room…

The Hotel industry is becoming more and more important every day, it’s expanding due to the large bloom in tourism and leisure.
With so many hotels, every little detail can be a deciding factor in whether the guest stays at one over the competition; this means the hotel has to offer the best quality products they can and also amenities for the guest to feel comfortable and at-home.
Depending on the class and type of hotel, the products they offer vary. 4/5 star hotels can offer bathing suits, luxury slippers or even electronical devices to their client. On the otherhand, hotels with 3 stars or less might not even offer an item as important and essential as slippers.

While it may seem like a trivial item, most hotel guests agree that it provides a very gratifying feeling to arrive to your new room and see a pair of slippers waiting for you to wear them.
Now, while there are still some (fewer and fewer as times passes, thankfully) hotels that continue using plastic slippers so that they don’t have to provide new ones for each customer, this has proven to be very unsanitary as it can provide a great deal of diseases.

WIth a disposable slipper you can avoid these problems, and provide the guest with a pair never worn before ones. Another great reason is because no matter how clean your hotel floor is, guests will never be comfortable to walk around barefoot, and to avoid them from slipping by just wearing socks, it’s great to be able to provide non-skid sole slippers. They’ll feel warm, soft and comfortable! And because they’re disposable you don’t have to worry about cleaning them afterwards, they can be offered to the guests as a gift (even though mosts guests take them anyway).

In Caractere we have many different types to offer, according to our clients needs.
From our STANDARD slippers, which is very affordable for any and every hotel, and while it’s our simplest slipper, it’s very high quality and will be liked by anyone who visits the hotel; to our PRESTIGE slippers which are the most high quality of the bunch, they have a velvet-like touch and a thicker sole than the others, they´re truly made for luxury hotels and have guests raving about them. The majority of our slippers are customizable; we give the client the chance to pick what colors they want (from the ones we carry, otherwise we can make slippers of a specific color if the client is willing to order our standard minimum quantity for special orders), the piping colors, the thickness of the sole, logo, etc.

Different types of bedding

14204586742_e54ef6ea87_o

There are many different types of pillows, covers, protectors, sheets and other bedding items; and with these comes all the confusion of what exactly each product is, what it’s used for and whether it’s a necessity or not. Here we have a list of all the products you need to create a perfect and complete bed (not all are essential):

Mattress Protector: As the name implies, it’s a protector for your mattress, which means it’ll keep it from getting stained, wet or full of pesky hairs that we shed during our sleep. Some are waterproof/water resistant which can really come in handy.
Bed Skirt: Placed between mattress and box springs, this piece of fabric is only for decorative purposes and it can add color and elegance, all while hiding the box springs since it usually goes all the way to the floor.
Fitted sheet: This sheet goes either directly on over your mattress or over the mattress protector. They have an elastic edge that makes it adjust flawlessly to your mattress.
Flat sheet: This sheet is the next piece of fabric following the fitted sheet. It separates your body from the comforter, quilt and/or blanket. This item isn’t extremely popular in Europe, because of the existence of the duvet cover.
Duvet: A duvet is basically a soft flat bag filled with down, feathers, or another synthetic alternative.
Duvet cover: It’s a removable cover for the duvet. The reason because many people don’t use a flat sheet when they have a duvet cover, is because these can be washed and/or replaced easily, so it’s one less thing to worry about. It’s presented as a sort of envelope which, once you’ve placed the duvet inside, is closed with buttons or a zipper.

Bedspread: More commonly used in America, this is a thin covering, which goes over the flat sheet. It doesn’t provide much warmth or comfort at all, it’s just for decoration, it covers the entire bed and usually it’s long enough to reach the floor.
Quilt: Traditionally, it is composed of three layers of fabric: a woven cloth top, a layer of batting and a woven back, which is stitched together with different decorative patterns. Some aren’t even used a bedding, rather as throws, table cloths, runners…
Blanket: Serves to provide warmth, and while it’s sometimes used alone, it’s more often than not put under your duvet/bedspread/quilt.3198810449_b09258952b_o
Pillow protector: Soft and very durable material which helps prevents stains, lice, bed bugs, bacteria and dust mites on the pillow. This can go alone or with a pillow case on top.
Pillow case: It’s purpose is to cover the pillow (and/or pillow protector). Usually used more for decoration as there are many different patterns and designs available. It has one lateral opening through which the pillow is placed, and it is later closed with a zipper, buttons, drawstrings, etc. or it can have an overlap or envelope closure.
Pillow sham: Similar to a pillow case except instead of having a lateral opening, it’s all closed and has a margin of extra cloth. More than anything, it has a decorative purpose.
Throw blanket: It’s very similar to a normal blanket, except it’s more for added decoration or warth at the foot of the bed or to wrap around your shoulder.

Leader in the production and distribution of disposable linen in Europe, Caractere Paris offers a wide variety of models and sizes, having to adapt to the different types of mattresses found in France, Spain, Germany and Italy.

Inspired by our experience with international clients, the next article will be about the different ways of calling bed linen and will be titled: “Linen in Five Languages. Five Different Ways to Sleep” Till next time!

Why Use Disposable Mattress Protectors:

l_drap-housse-nuitranquille-3Mattress protectors are an essential product in each and every hotel room. Why? To guarantee the customers hygiene. Without it, they could come in contact with possible stains or even hairs that could´ve gotten embedded in the mattress.

The vast majority, if not all hotels use them. That’s not the problem, the problem is that there are hotels that still use reusable mattress protectors.

You´re probably wondering what’s wrong with using a reusable one, since they’ve always been used. In response to this, I’m pleased to inform you that there are several advantages: time, due to the fact that instead of having to wash them, you would just recycle them after they’ve been used; Hygiene, our disposable mattress protectors can last for months without having to be changed and it remains 100% clean thanks to the material it’s made out of, which by the way is waterproof; and another great advantage, that perhaps for many will be the most important …. THEY’RE CHEAPER.

At first you might think that having to buy them several times a year would be more expensive than buying them only once. But what about the expenses or problems that washing them can cause?

It wouldn’t seem so, but these expenses add up, especially if in your hotel the bed linen is washed daily, which is the case for most. Normally the mattress protectors come with an elastic to allow it to adjust to the bed. This causes a big problem, the tumble dryer has to be set at low temperatures (which is more expensive), otherwise it has to be  dried outdoors, which is a waste of time and space.

Many will think that perhaps this is false, but if you really look at your laundry bills you will realize it is in fact true, this is what ACCOR hotels in France realized and they’ve been customers of ours for many years.

Everyone wants to save money, if you have it so easy and readily available… what’s stopping you?

How to save water in emergency situations thanks to disposable sheets. Or be prepper.

End of the World : Join the Preppers?

The words may be a bit strong but maybe the World is not that strong!

However, I’m not going to tell you about the Apocalypse but how to go about preparing to face a severe crisis.

It is not just movies are dealing with this subject. Many may recall the year 2012 as the fall of civilisation according to Mayan predictions! It also gets mentioned in the Holy Scriptures. Even Hergé deals with it in Tintin’s Shooting Star when Prof. Phostle walks the streets banging the gong and calling us to redemption…

Have you got it yet?

Here I can hear you unbelievers saying:  “It’s just fiction!”

Yet haven’t we seen:

ØPeople climbing on to roofs or camping in their attic when Hurricane Katrina struck the Gulf of Mexico and the southern United States,

ØThe volcanic eruption of Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland. Stranding thousands of people in airports or in their homes.

ØThe massive migration of people in Europe taking place nowadays.

These types of massive problems could affect you, or what if they happen to you?

Getting prepared for such disorders of civilisation also means getting ready to face them… How long will you be able to stand such disruptions?

One or two weeks? A month; a few months? A whole year maybe?

This is where the limit between a manageable crisis and chaos lies.

Governments have made disaster preparedness lists and kits: here the one from International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent societies

They’ve told us about the importance of water and food. TV, radio, newspapers, all other communications media and government reminds us about it!

Food and water and even communications are important for sure, but is that it?

No water means the end, but basic hygiene is paramount.  No, not talking of science fiction again. Just crucial points. Our health would be threatened and one would not last long.

This is why, whatever the process, everybody agrees we must have food and good hygiene.

Now you have a dilemma: saving water but still keeping your environment clean!

This means having clean clothes, sheets and dishes without having to wash them; the less water you waste, the longer you will be safe.

We could get our inspiration from how governments deal with disasters, as they tend to attempt to consider all eventualities.

However, reality is often worse than envisaged.

Traumatic experiences such as the big tsunami in Thailand or the latest Syrian exodus showed how good logistics are primordial. Beyond a large supply of food and water, processes always include providing tents, beds, clean sheets and blankets.

from Caractère ParisWhich is why governments have agreements with specialized companies such as Caractère Paris, whose expertise of emergencies and capacity to provide thousands of disposable linen and blankets within 24 hours makes it a key player.

For space saving the equipment is designed to be transported without specialised equipment and can easily be stored.

As single citizens, we too can get ready to face the unpredictable!

Hotel Bedding – The endless endeavour to maintain maximum hygiene for your Guests stay.

hotel roomKeeping your hotel clean is as we know of the essence, but sometimes maintaining that standard can be a choore. With hotels having to cut their service staff budgets, turning the room around has to be efficient and well planned.

The advantage that we have today over hotels just 10 years or so ago, is that we have access to tools that can make our work substantially easier.

The cleanliness of a hotelroom may not be amongst the top topics of the average persons life, but be assured that when guests find a room that is not up to their standard of cleanliness they will remember that for a long time to come.
Dr. Bonnie Knutson (Michigan State School of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management) conducted a study on behalf of the Dial Corporation in 1987, with the bold finding that the primary reason for a guest’s return or non return to a hotel is the level of cleanliness. In actual fact the statistic shows that 56.2% of the guests staying in economy or budget hotels, did not come back for another stay because the room was not up to their expected standard of cleanliness. Although this isnt as astounding as the 93.6% of the guests who had stayed in a luxury hotel, who said they would happily return for another nights stay.

Single use bedsheets, mattress covers (with and without zip), disposable mattress protectors (water proof), single use pillow case covers and that is just the start.
Being able to have a quick hygienic turnaround, and saving the costs of transporting and washing the linen is phenomenal. Another advantage being, that you can now stock these linen and never be let down by the laundry supplier.

Another advantage of using single use bedsheets, is the protection of the mattress itself. The lifetime of the matress can be prelonged substantially by looking after it correctly.

from Caractère Paris

Disposable Fitted Mattress Cover

First and foremost you need to maintain dryness of the mattress, which can be done by using a waterproof mattress protector.
You also need to make sure that the sheets you are using are clean enough to not make the mattress dirty or damp. All of these things can be prevented by simply using single use mattress protectors.

The key to a successful hotel venture is the maintainence of cleanliness. This can only come from the hotels employees understanding of the brand’s core values. If the room attendants are trained sufficiently on the standard procedures for cleaning a hotel room and they are given the right tools, such as disposable pillow covers, disposable bedsheets etc., you can be assured that your guests will return for another stay.
Lastly, hygiene is not only a question of guest satisfaction, but it is also a very important factor when it comes to health and safety, as well as complying with the industries legislation and standard requirements.

In closing:

– Train your employees on the core values of your brand
– Give them ample supply of the right tools
– Maintain a strong auditing process to retain standards

Caractere’s Disposable Linens Mobilized to Aid Syrian Refugees in Germany

This fall, Germany’s administration broke apart from the position held by its neighbors and other members of the European Union on the subject of a pressing humanitarian aid crisis: Syrian refugees. Germany became the first country on the continent to accept a large contingent of asylum-seekers from the war-torn country.

The pilot program will allow 5,000 Syrians to relocate over the course of one year, thanks to the organisation of 25 private flights by the German government. Counting those who will receive this assistance and other refugees who migrate on their own, estimates place the number of people to flee Syria in recent years for Europe at 17,000+ by the beginning of 2014.

Germany and the UNHCR are lobbying other European members to contribute space for the refugees or other resources to help smooth their resettlement.

The UNHCR, or the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,  selected the initial group of refugees according to a number of factors.

Those considered “particularly vulnerable,” such as single mothers, minorities and the chronically ill were atop the list.

For the purposes of integration, German speakers had an advantage over other applicants. Additional consideration was also given to applicants with a connection to Germany, such as time spent in the country studying or family currently located there.

Finally a certain number of spots went to the intellectual, academic and professional elite of Syria, judged the group most important for the reconstruction of the country after the resolution of the current crisis.

The first group landed in Hannover a few weeks ago, sending a message the German government wants its neighbors to notice. The government then transported them to Friedland, a transit camp where the refugees spend two weeks.

Germany is no stranger to waves of refugees, as it decided to welcome 300,000 during the wars in the Balkans of the early 1990s. Nearly a million refugees have passed through Friedland over its history.

Given the basics of shelter and food, the newcomers attend German language and culture classes every day. Administratively a step ahead of other asylum-seekers, the Syrians are granted instant refugee status, which means they can start working whenever they want.

After the two week integration and orientation period, the different states of Germany each accept a number of refugees for permanent placement.

Certainly Germany’s actions represent a noble gesture, but this recent decision risks being seen as merely “a drop in the bucket.” This is because some two million Syrians seek asylum abroad, in addition to the four million already internally displaced, according to figures released by the United Nations.

This represents one third of the country’s population, a figure the UN estimates could reach as high as one half by the end of the year. More than 700,000 Syrians have officially registered as refugees in Lebanon. This has overwhelmed Syria’s neighbor, a country normally with a population of 4.5 million.

Unfortunate for the refugees, airline regulations impose a 44 pound limit per person for luggage. Within this limit, refugees must pack all the personal items and effects intended to prepare them for a stay of two years in Germany. Many left their homes in a rush, fleeing violence or destruction, without the time to pack up properly.

Often because of these constraints, refugees come to airport with little more than the clothes on their backs. For these reasons, it’s essential for countries planning to welcome refugees must prepare adequate infrastructure and supplies in advance.

While the core of our activities stem from the hotel industry or public institutions like hospitals and schools, Caractere already has experience in the field of humanitarian aid. Thus, it was with great honor that Caractere recently received a substantial order from Germany to help welcome Syrian refugees in their transition to life in Europe.

Some of our most popular items to deal with natural disasters and large population migrations include those from our hotel supply unit, including warm blanketssleeping bags and children’s linens. Caractere also manufactures a variety of uniforms and work outfits to properly equip the staff and volunteers associated with the reception of refugees.
