An essential item in every hotel room…

The Hotel industry is becoming more and more important every day, it’s expanding due to the large bloom in tourism and leisure.
With so many hotels, every little detail can be a deciding factor in whether the guest stays at one over the competition; this means the hotel has to offer the best quality products they can and also amenities for the guest to feel comfortable and at-home.
Depending on the class and type of hotel, the products they offer vary. 4/5 star hotels can offer bathing suits, luxury slippers or even electronical devices to their client. On the otherhand, hotels with 3 stars or less might not even offer an item as important and essential as slippers.

While it may seem like a trivial item, most hotel guests agree that it provides a very gratifying feeling to arrive to your new room and see a pair of slippers waiting for you to wear them.
Now, while there are still some (fewer and fewer as times passes, thankfully) hotels that continue using plastic slippers so that they don’t have to provide new ones for each customer, this has proven to be very unsanitary as it can provide a great deal of diseases.

WIth a disposable slipper you can avoid these problems, and provide the guest with a pair never worn before ones. Another great reason is because no matter how clean your hotel floor is, guests will never be comfortable to walk around barefoot, and to avoid them from slipping by just wearing socks, it’s great to be able to provide non-skid sole slippers. They’ll feel warm, soft and comfortable! And because they’re disposable you don’t have to worry about cleaning them afterwards, they can be offered to the guests as a gift (even though mosts guests take them anyway).

In Caractere we have many different types to offer, according to our clients needs.
From our STANDARD slippers, which is very affordable for any and every hotel, and while it’s our simplest slipper, it’s very high quality and will be liked by anyone who visits the hotel; to our PRESTIGE slippers which are the most high quality of the bunch, they have a velvet-like touch and a thicker sole than the others, they´re truly made for luxury hotels and have guests raving about them. The majority of our slippers are customizable; we give the client the chance to pick what colors they want (from the ones we carry, otherwise we can make slippers of a specific color if the client is willing to order our standard minimum quantity for special orders), the piping colors, the thickness of the sole, logo, etc.

Different types of bedding

14204586742_e54ef6ea87_o

There are many different types of pillows, covers, protectors, sheets and other bedding items; and with these comes all the confusion of what exactly each product is, what it’s used for and whether it’s a necessity or not. Here we have a list of all the products you need to create a perfect and complete bed (not all are essential):

Mattress Protector: As the name implies, it’s a protector for your mattress, which means it’ll keep it from getting stained, wet or full of pesky hairs that we shed during our sleep. Some are waterproof/water resistant which can really come in handy.
Bed Skirt: Placed between mattress and box springs, this piece of fabric is only for decorative purposes and it can add color and elegance, all while hiding the box springs since it usually goes all the way to the floor.
Fitted sheet: This sheet goes either directly on over your mattress or over the mattress protector. They have an elastic edge that makes it adjust flawlessly to your mattress.
Flat sheet: This sheet is the next piece of fabric following the fitted sheet. It separates your body from the comforter, quilt and/or blanket. This item isn’t extremely popular in Europe, because of the existence of the duvet cover.
Duvet: A duvet is basically a soft flat bag filled with down, feathers, or another synthetic alternative.
Duvet cover: It’s a removable cover for the duvet. The reason because many people don’t use a flat sheet when they have a duvet cover, is because these can be washed and/or replaced easily, so it’s one less thing to worry about. It’s presented as a sort of envelope which, once you’ve placed the duvet inside, is closed with buttons or a zipper.

Bedspread: More commonly used in America, this is a thin covering, which goes over the flat sheet. It doesn’t provide much warmth or comfort at all, it’s just for decoration, it covers the entire bed and usually it’s long enough to reach the floor.
Quilt: Traditionally, it is composed of three layers of fabric: a woven cloth top, a layer of batting and a woven back, which is stitched together with different decorative patterns. Some aren’t even used a bedding, rather as throws, table cloths, runners…
Blanket: Serves to provide warmth, and while it’s sometimes used alone, it’s more often than not put under your duvet/bedspread/quilt.3198810449_b09258952b_o
Pillow protector: Soft and very durable material which helps prevents stains, lice, bed bugs, bacteria and dust mites on the pillow. This can go alone or with a pillow case on top.
Pillow case: It’s purpose is to cover the pillow (and/or pillow protector). Usually used more for decoration as there are many different patterns and designs available. It has one lateral opening through which the pillow is placed, and it is later closed with a zipper, buttons, drawstrings, etc. or it can have an overlap or envelope closure.
Pillow sham: Similar to a pillow case except instead of having a lateral opening, it’s all closed and has a margin of extra cloth. More than anything, it has a decorative purpose.
Throw blanket: It’s very similar to a normal blanket, except it’s more for added decoration or warth at the foot of the bed or to wrap around your shoulder.

“Oh no! I forgot to bring my bathing suit”…

When you go on vacation, the 2 of the most important things you have on your mind is relaxing and having a good time. For many people this translates into participating in a fun activity such as swimming.

Now, you may be thinking that most guests come with their own bathing suits, but the truth is that they seem to forget them more often than we would assume. Whether it’s because it just slipped their mind or because it’s been misplaced or broken, imagine the gratitude they’ll feel when they find out that the hotel they stay carries bathing suits. It adds to the services of the hotel.
Another very common reason behind the guests needing a bathing suit, is because if they choose to go on vacation during the winter season, they most likely weren’t thinking about going swimming. It’s a real shame when they can’t enjoy the pool (if your hotel has an indoor pool).

At Caractere, we have produced our line of Disposable bathing suits, and no, you’re not supposed to throw them away (you can recycle them) after just one use, they can last months if they’re properly taken care of, but if they are washed too many times it can start to stretch too much.
We have 4 different styles: 2 for women (bikini and one-piece) and 2 for men (boxer-cut shorts and stretchy brief-style shorts). All in black, as we think it’s the most versatile and fashionable color. Lined with a comfortable, protective layer of soft white mesh fabric in the crotch area and inside the supported cups, the bust size generally corresponds to the size of the suit: A-B for Small, C-D for Medium, etc., but the cut is generous enough to allow a wide range of users to feel comfortable.
The padded bra section offers complete discretion even when wet, and the elastic waist area ensures that these swimsuits will flatter your guests with a lovely silhouette.
And the best thing? We have all sizes available from XS (extra small) to XXL (extra extra large).

It might not seem like the most imporant thing, but it’s surely a detail that your guests will really appreciate and rave about, as nowdays only the most expensive and luxurious hotels offer this option.

Why Use Disposable Mattress Protectors:

l_drap-housse-nuitranquille-3Mattress protectors are an essential product in each and every hotel room. Why? To guarantee the customers hygiene. Without it, they could come in contact with possible stains or even hairs that could´ve gotten embedded in the mattress.

The vast majority, if not all hotels use them. That’s not the problem, the problem is that there are hotels that still use reusable mattress protectors.

You´re probably wondering what’s wrong with using a reusable one, since they’ve always been used. In response to this, I’m pleased to inform you that there are several advantages: time, due to the fact that instead of having to wash them, you would just recycle them after they’ve been used; Hygiene, our disposable mattress protectors can last for months without having to be changed and it remains 100% clean thanks to the material it’s made out of, which by the way is waterproof; and another great advantage, that perhaps for many will be the most important …. THEY’RE CHEAPER.

At first you might think that having to buy them several times a year would be more expensive than buying them only once. But what about the expenses or problems that washing them can cause?

It wouldn’t seem so, but these expenses add up, especially if in your hotel the bed linen is washed daily, which is the case for most. Normally the mattress protectors come with an elastic to allow it to adjust to the bed. This causes a big problem, the tumble dryer has to be set at low temperatures (which is more expensive), otherwise it has to be  dried outdoors, which is a waste of time and space.

Many will think that perhaps this is false, but if you really look at your laundry bills you will realize it is in fact true, this is what ACCOR hotels in France realized and they’ve been customers of ours for many years.

Everyone wants to save money, if you have it so easy and readily available… what’s stopping you?

5 ways hotels can reduce the negative impact they have on the environment

In previous years, we were not as aware of the impact we generated on the environment and not many people changed their bad habits regarding this subject; whether it was simply because of laziness or the fact that regrettably, most organic products had a higher price than the non-organic ones (which is something that still happens).
Nowadays, this has changed and it’s become a priority for many people. This has also been reflected in the hotel industry, the reason behind this being: consumer loyalty, economical reasons and the destruction planet we were and still are causing. There are more than 1,000,000 hotels in the world, and if every hotel followed at least one of these suggestions we could start to see a change.

1: Implement alternative energy sources…
Many hotels have already switched their source of energy to an alternative one; Such as air, water … and they’ve seen very good results.

hilton

Hotel Hilton in Fortlauderdaler (FL; USA)

For example, there is a hotel in the United States that is using wind energy, with which they have managed to reduce their consumption by 12%. Hydropower could also be used, if the hotel is located near the sea or even solar energy can be used in places with warm climates. Fortunately, the alternative energy industry is growing more and more every day, which increases its affordability.

2: Do not waste water …
Each time we flush the toilet we use about 9 liters of water. A shower of 4 minutes, between 40 and 60 liters and if you leave the faucet open while you brush your teeth in the morning and at night at night, about 50 to 150 a day. Imagine the amount of daily, monthly or even annual water that can be wasted in a hotel … For this reason many products have been put on the market to help this cause such as toilets with reduced water capacity or faucets and showerheads with low flow.

3: Buy wholesale …
Buy wholesale, means fewer boxes to pack your products, less energy consumed and less carbon used to transport the merchandise. And as if that were not enough, this leads to obtaining greater and better discounts. In Character, we offer this option; Which benefits the customer and the environment at the same time.

4: Creating a garden …
Besides being aesthetically pleasing and it’s another service to offer the customers, the garden helps a lot to counteract the carbon footprint that the hotels leave in the environment. This space can be used to create a small park for children or by simply adding a few benches and some flowers, it can become a nice area where guests can relax and/or go for a walk.

5: Recycle …
One of the biggest impacts the hotels have is all the waste products they produce, even though many of the products inside the hotels are recyclable: paper, bottles, batteries …

recycle

It’s necessary to make a habit of recycling and to get all employees and customers to do it aswell. Our company Caractere Paris cares for the environment, and for this reason practically all our products are recyclable: from slippers to mattress protectors! It is very important to implement products like these in hotels, to make recycling even easier, and consequently to decrease the excuses one might have to not do so.

In short, these are just a few of the many ways hotels could reduce their impact on the environment. Providing a grain of sand, can change the world; contributing to make it a cleaner and more pleasant place to live.

Disposable Face Cloths: Why it is More Cost-Effective

Disposable Face Cloths: Why it is More Cost-Effective

Disposable Face ClothsApart from being time consuming, laundry costs can greatly take up a huge part of your budget. Hotel management certainly knows that particular fact. How many items need to be washed every single day? Mattress covers, face cloths, towels, blankets, and the list goes on. You’ll be surprised at how much time and money is spent on these unknowing little things just to have them laundered and freshened up. This is where disposable stuff comes into place.

Apart from disposable slippers and blankets, there is another ingeniously disposable product: face cloths. How many guests use face cloths? The answer is, of course, every single one of them. Each and every guest requires face cloths at one point or another in their hotel stay. That shouldn’t come as a surprise though because it is already expected. Some guests even request extra face cloths – so you can really tell how used and abused these little things are. Here are the reasons why you should switch to the disposable kind.

  1. It is cheap. Quite contrary to what one might think, disposable face cloths actually are cheap when you buy them in bulk – that’s already another tip if you plan to go disposable.
  2. It is sanitary and hygienic. Just because all you do is throw it after the guests use it, there is no need to utterly sanitize it in any way. Guests use these face cloths for god-knows-what apart from its regular purpose. Throwing it away just puts everyone at ease.
  3. It is economical. Apart from the fact that it is cheap, these disposable face cloths don’t need to be laundered anymore – which saves you laundry and labor costs.
  4. It is safe. These disposable face cloths are made of high quality materials that are a hundred percent safe to use for anyone. It is also highly biodegradable so you won’t have to worry about tainting Mother Nature with it.
  5. Guests will love it. Of course, they want to use something brand new – which you can possibly give when you let them use these disposable kinds.

As you can see, there are really quite a number of really convincing reasons why you should use disposable face cloths. You might not be surprised about the number of disposable variants that are available nowadays: disposable undies, towels, plates, cutlery, nighties, and the list goes on. You might wonder why? This is due to the fact that disposable things are more innovative and cost-effective. Though there are certain situations where disposable stuff can be more expensive in the long run, you still can’t deny the fact that there are also a huge amount of reasons why disposables are more time and cost-efficient compared to the costs of having those traditional alternatives.

If you opt for the disposable kind, your housekeeping personnel, your guests, and everyone else in the hotel will certainly salute you for choosing the disposable kinds. So if you really want the best for your hotel, start going disposable.
